I personally found "Ponyo" to be vastly overrated. I see why everyone was so smitten by it, but something didn't click for me. I won't win a lot of friends by spreading my negative opinion of this film, but let me say that I'm a little glad that Ponyo didn't get nominated. It had great animation, but nowhere near as adroit a story as "Spirited Away " or "My Neighbor Totoro." His weakest film, I believe.
